She first met Gavner during her hospital shift (she worked as a nurse), with him asking for blood. She gives it to him and Gavner confides in her about him being a vampire. They became good friends afterwards and the two had a relationship of 26 years, being on-and-off lovers.
Some time before he leaves to Vampire Mountain for the vampire council meeting, Gavner visits her for the first time in three years. After spending the night together, Liz leaves the next day. She leaves him a note breaking up with him and a pair of tacky yellow boxers as a gift.
