Daniel Abrams (ダニエル・エイブラムズ Danieru Eiburamusu), nicknamed Spits (スピッツ Supitsu) is a sailor that Larten Crepsley met in his youth. Out of spite, he tells everyone in the ship that Larten as a vampire, which results in the death of Larten's assistant and half of the crew in the ship being massacred by the enraged vampire. Larten locks up Daniel as a punishment, which drives him mad from the isolation and becoming an insane cannibal.
He returns in The Saga of Darren Shan as an old mad sailor residing in the Lake of Souls. He was burned alive by a dragon after trying to kill Darren and Harkat.

Daniel worked on the "Pearly Tornado" ship when he first meets Larten and Malora. Larten pays him to fetch the captain so they can stay on the ship. Daniel develops a crush on Malora, but unfortunately he sees her getting blood for Larten, discovering that he's a vampire. He then proceeds to tell everyone on the ship that Larten is a vampire and is shown enjoying as Malora is killed for protecting Larten.
Larten is enraged upon finding out what happened and kills everyone on the ship, sparing only a senior mate, two sailors, Daniel and a baby Gavner Purl. When the ship reaches its destination, Larten releases Daniel and the others only to find that he has become a cannibal and killed the other two sailors.

When Darren Shan and Harkat Mulds go to the Lake of Souls in the future, they meet an older Abrams, now calling himself "Spits". The two team up with him, as they need Spits' net, which was an special item that fishes the dead.
When Darren and Harkat reached the Temple of the Grotesque, they asked Spits to stay outside and keep watch. After a big fight, Darren and the chief of the Kulashkas, Spits bursted in and killed several of the Kulashkas. It resulted in the temple collapsing and Darren, Harkat and Spits barely escaping.
As they reach the Lake of Souls, Daniel drops his friendly demeanor and attacks Darren and Harkat, revealing that he always knew they weren't human. In the end Daniel was pushed into the lake, which resulted in the invulnerability spell over the it disappearing and the dragons being freed to enter.

- It's implied he might be involved in the deaths of Madame Truska's husband and daughter. According to her, they were killed by "evil fishermen".
- As an old man, he was addicted to drinking poteen.
